The challenge

Romanian companies can fully deduct vehicle costs only if they keep trip logs. In practice, logs are filled in at the end of the month from memory and do not survive an audit. Existing solutions require GPS hardware installed in the car and expensive subscriptions.

The solution

We built Kilometrix as our own product: a mobile app (iOS and Android from one codebase) that records trips with the phone's GPS, started manually or automatically when leaving a defined zone. The server keeps the routes, applies the tax rules and generates the monthly PDFs. An admin panel manages companies, vehicles and drivers. The public site includes a deduction calculator.

Why we built our own product

We met the same problem at several transport and distribution clients: trip logs made from memory that do not survive an audit. Kilometrix is our answer: a product we develop and operate, and which shows what the team can do when building from scratch, including the mobile app, API, payments and store publishing.

Technical details

Monorepo with four applications: API in PHP 8.3 with Slim 4 and MySQL, the mobile app in Expo and React Native, the admin panel in React and Vite, and a static website. Most of the ‘non-obvious’ code exists to survive a tax inspection: rounding rules, mileage continuity, GPS data purging after the legal retention period.
